As quantitation is an important first step in the protein analysis process, one needs access to a diverse variety of methods to ensure accurate protein quantitation. 

Depending on protein characteristics and potential future steps, a variety of assays can be performed using UV absorption, colorimetry, fluorescence detection or biuret methods. 

Quantitation can be followed by isolation, separation and analysis.
