Dislodgeable foliar residue studies

In dislodgeable foliar residue studies, potential exposure of agricultural workers re-entering the field after application of a pesticide is estimated. Studies are run in more than one location, to represent the product’s range of crops, climates and pests. In the intended season of use and suitable weather (more than 24 hours before rain), the product is applied at maximum intended concentration to plants in the field. Samples are taken at increasing intervals until at least 35 days. Precise sample area is ensured using a 2.5 or 5 cm2 disc Birkestrand type or equivalent sampler and/or imaging processing software. Samples are shaken in an aqueous surfactant solution for a set time and the solution analyzed to report weight of dislodged pesticide per unit of leaf area.
