Orchiectomy procedure

An orchiectomy is the surgical removal of one or both testicles. Usually carried out in rats or mice, this technique is often used in preclinical behavior or cancer studies. It may also be employed to mimic sex hormone deficiencies. Overall orchiectomy in male rats results in significant loss of bone mineral density and increased cortical porosity, mimicking osteoporosis as caused by androgen deficiency.
